When designing glass solutions, mechanical properties are key, and surface treatments can significantly influence these properties.
That’s why we set out to determine whether our bird-friendly laser treatment affects glass strength.
By rigorously testing, we’ve ensured that our technology upholds the structural integrity of glass, giving designers confidence in their calculations and applications.
Here is a short summary of our critical study that determines whether our laser treatment affects the mechanical strength of glass. Together with a partner 20 samples were tested — 10 laser-marked with our technology and 10 untreated. All 20 samples got the same tempering treatment and were tested in a 4 – point – bending test (EN1288-3).
We found that our bird-friendly laser treatment does not compromise glass strength.
Bending strength (N/mm²) quantile (EN1288-3) results:
Untreated glass: 133 N/mm²
Laser-marked glass with ORION Laser Tech technology: 134 N/mm²
This confirms that our laser technology maintains glass integrity and has no negative effect on the bending strength.
