Orion Laser Tech, a division of LAB Motion systems, is a high-tech company specialized in the development of laser processing machines for the glass industry. Orion does the development in-house and delivers turnkey solutions to the customer. As such, revolutionize-laser-processing-of-glass is not a mantra but a promise. 

Our machines require cutting-edge technologies in all aspects of the machine: advanced motion performance, state-of-the-art lasers and optical systems, advanced features like machine vision integration and a custom software interface. 

Orion & LAB have a tradition of continuous improvement, growth and learning in the development of new products. To achieve this, we rely on an excellent team of PhD’s, development engineers and well-trained technicians and a professional sales team. 

We are currently looking for an R&D engineer for the R&D team of Orion Laser Tech. The R&D team is in a fast-paced environment where you can quickly increase your knowledge and expertise in multiple disciplines. You will be responsible for developing and improving a wide range of production processes.

Job description

  • Evaluate the performance of existing machines and processes and develop improvements
  • Process characterization of different lasers, applications, customer requests,…
  • Carry out application requests from the customer
  • Research and evaluate new technologies or alternatives to existing processes
  • Develop new machines and processes
  • Create reports to share knowledge and provide technical support to the operations and sales team

Who are we looking for? 

  • You are highly motivated and result-driven
  • You have a hands-on mentality and are not afraid to learn new things to tackle technical challenges
  • A creative problem-solver
  • You are technical and analytical
  • Basic knowledge of 3D modelling (experience with Autodesk Inventor is a plus)
  • Basic knowledge of electronics
  • Basic knowledge of programming skills (experience in Structured Text or Python is a plus) or willing to learn
  • Master’s in engineering (preferably mechanical or electrical)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse team members
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English
